Iowa Transportation Commission approves funding for State Recreational Trails Program

AMES, Iowa – Nov. 12, 2024 – Today, the Iowa Transportation Commission approved $3,523,206 for nine State Recreational Trails Program projects. The State Recreational Trails Program was created in 1988 with the purpose of developing and maintaining recreational trails and trail-related facilities for both motorized and non-motorized trail users. This funding is available to cities, counties, state agencies, local governments, and nonprofit organizations through an annual application-based program.

The projects and approved funding amounts are listed below.

Bentonsport Bridge Rehab (Van Buren County Conservation Board)                  $   403,000

Carlson Park Trail Phase 1A and Phase 1B (Decorah)                                        $   298,795

Clay County Connection Phase 2 (Dickinson County Trails Board)                     $   520,000

Flint River Trail Connection (Burlington)                                                               $     71,625

Iowa River’s Edge Trail Resurfacing and Bridge Replacement

(Hardin County)                                                                                                    $   745,000

Jewellsworth Trail Acquisition (Hamilton County Conservation Board)                $   180,000

Neal Smith to High Trestle Trail Connector and Trailhead (Polk City)                  $   700,000

Pioneer Trail Reinbeck Gap (Grundy County Conservation Board)                     $   279,786

Pony Hollow Trail Extension Phase I (Clayton County Conservation Board)       $   325,000
