2017 results are in!
Another HUGE thank you to all the runners, sponsors, and well-wishers who made this year’s event a success.
In the end we had 70 runners complete the exceptionally challenging course. Our mid-race photos show a ton of hard work and some abject shock, but most everyone coming through the finish had a smile on their face.
It is always so incredibly inspiring to see the positivity YOU all bring to the event. It speaks to the pride our community takes in its wild spaces, and the joy to be found therein. Whether you were charging hard, or just out for a stroll, we really hope you enjoyed your experience.
In the end we raised over $2000 to go towards renovations of exhibits at the Osborne Nature Center. That’s a GREAT number!
But as always, truly, the greater goal was to provide a memorable outing and a quality event. That’s where you come in – we’re still very new to all this, so we NEED your feedback. Let us know what you thought worked, what you thought didn’t, what you might do differently… Any and all criticism is welcome. We want this event to be a community staple, and something that can grow with our organization. The best way to do that is to have you, the participants, shape it for years to come.
So feel free to share your stories with us personally via phone call or email, or on our facebook page. We hope you’ve got a story worth telling, and we hope to see you all next year for another good time!
The Motor Motor 5K Trail Run
Get off the road for a good cause with the Motor Motor 5k, taking place Saturday, March 18th, 2017 at the Motor Mill Historic Site.
Motor Mill, a six story limestone building constructed in the late 1860’s, serves as the park’s centerpiece along with other buildings from a bygone era. Surrounding that centerpiece, miles of well maintained trail lead visitors through restored oak savannas, woodlands, tallgrass prairies, and stunning bluffs along the Turkey River.
The Motor Motor 5k, hosted by Clayton County Conservation, takes advantage of those outstanding trails to create an incredible event. Competitive runners will find a unique race experience. A route combining firebreaks, singletrack and horse trails through rugged terrain make for a challenging but enjoyable course. Less experienced runners and walkers will find a setting where the journey truly is the goal. Few races boast such a blend of the naturally beautiful and historically fascinating.
But make no mistake, this is a true trail run – hills, mud, roots, and rocks mean you need to keep an eye on your footing. While we do our best with course direction and marking, paying close attention to the course map before the starting gun will help minimize any wrong turns. If you can run your personal best on this course, our hats go off to you.
Whether you’re looking for a good tune-up for the summer racing season, a race that’s easier on the knees than pounding pavement, or just a beautiful setting for some aerobic exercise on a Saturday, the Motor Motor 5k has got what you need to welcome the coming spring.
All proceeds for this year’s event will go towards the planned exhibit renovation of the Osborne Nature Center. The total cost estimate for the project is in excess of $400,000, so tell your friends about this great event!
Thanks to the generosity of local businesses prizes for overall and age-group winners, as well as goodie-bag gifts are donated.
