Cedars for Celebration

Saturday, November 28th, 9:00 AM-1:00 PM

Osborne Pond

No Reservations Required

Historically, Eastern red cedars were rare, thriving only in places prairie fires could not reach. Today, in the absence of fire, they have come to dominate many grasslands at the expense of plants with greater habitat value.

But they make for fantastic holiday trees! If you’d like to help improve habitat and “spruce” up your holiday décor, come out to the Osborne Pond on Saturday, November 28th and pick out a tree to take home.

Clayton County Conservation Board staff will be on hand to help identify and select trees. The CCCB will provide hand saws, or you may bring your own (no chainsaws). We will also have twine to help secure the tree, but you are encouraged to bring your own rope or lashing material to get your tree home. Gloves are also highly recommended. Trees are free, but a donation of $10 or more is appreciated to go towards further habitat restoration efforts.

Clayton County Conservation will be closed Nov 26-29 for Thanksgiving.
